Sub 400 sqft addition: extend existing system if it has capacity (check the Manual J). 400 800 sqft: dedicated ductless mini split is usually best. 800+ sqft: dedicated second system.

Never just ‘add a vent’ to existing ductwork without recalculating. Undersized ducts cause comfort and humidity problems in the original house too.
